
Marble
This figure is seated in the relaxation posture on a high seat with the left foot resting on a lotus. The body of the Bodhisattva leans slightly forward. A wide collar is around the neck and a stole hangs down the upper arms. The folds of the lower garment are represented in simple lines and the hems are gathered in a series of layered folds.
The inscription on the base states the monk Daochang dedicated the statue in 553. It is thought from the inscription that the statue may be of Prince Siddhartha instead of a Bodhisattva.
