CHINA, Hebei, Baoding

Ran Jingwen was a sculptor from Quyang county in Baoding, Hebei. Skilled in carving from white stone, he created a series of true-to-life Tang-style figures and carved several imitations and original works. After he joined the project to emboss the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Beijing in 1955, he worked in the Beijing Feixiang Architecture Art Carving Company.
His elegant and grand sculpture of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, also done in Tang style, is kept at the China Association of Fine Artists in Beijing.
