Wang Ze

CHINA; Northern Song dynasty

Wang Ze was a sculptor who was renowned for creating the statue Hariti at Famen Temple in Shaanxi during renovations. According to a stele inscription on the restoration of Famen Temple, the statue was produced in 1045 by Wang Ze, and was painted by Ren Wende. The image is lively in posture and vivid in appearance, showing a compassionate mother with her children.
