Zhu Shen

CHINA; Tang dynasty

Zhu Shen was a painter from either Wuxing (present day Huzhou, Zhejiang) or Wujun (present day Suzhou, Jiangsu). He relocated to Chang’an (present day Xi’an, Shaanxi) where he became a prominent artist between the years 780 and 783. One of his most well-known works is the west wall murals he painted in the lecture hall of Tang’an Temple. He shared a reputation with Wang Wei, a famous poet and artist, as mentioned in Records of Famous Paintings from the Tang Dynasty. His paintings were also listed in Famous Paintings in History.
