Shangrui, also known as Jingrui or Mucun, was a monk and painter from Wuxian (present day Suzhou). He renounced under Chan Master Jingyi at Liutong Temple in Jiangsu. He befriended Hui Shiqi and Zhang Dashou, with whom he composed numerous poems. He also composed Songs of Remaining Habits.
Shangrui was skilled in painting landscapes, figures, and Buddhist images, and would often give his completed works to monks as offerings. Three of his paintings, Book House Under Tree Shadow, Praising the Spring at Xiugu, and Listening to the Fountain Sound on a Stone Path, are kept at the Palace Museum in Beijing. Another painting, Imitated Ancient Landscape Painting, is kept at the Suzhou Museum in Jiangsu.
