Shen Biao

CHINA; Southern Qi dynasty

Shen Biao, a disciple of the well-known artist Xie He, was a painter adept in portraying a variety of subjects, especially Buddhist and Daoist figures. He painted murals at Wangguan Temple in Zhejiang, and his work was praised in Continuation of Classification of Ancient Painters, and recorded in Famous Paintings in History, Evaluation of Painters, and Painting Annals of the Zhenguan Period.
