Vessel with Lotus Base

VIETNAM

This ivory vase is 18 cm high and was created between the 11th and 13th centuries. It has a round Sumeru base, followed by three layers of upright lotuses. The body of the vase curves outward and culminates in a broad shoulder. It has a simple motif of a large six-petal lotus outlined in brown wash. The shoulder has a lotus petal relief, and the neck is short and wide without any decoration. Overall, the vase has an elegant simplicity.
