Earthenware
This model of a pagoda was discovered at Cho Pagoda in Vinh Phuc. The model is covered in white, brown, and celadon glazes, and is decorated with various images.
The square pagoda has nine stories and is 156 cm high with a three-layer base. The first layer is lined with a celadon floral decoration, followed by a white chrysanthemum and vine pattern with a brown border. The second layer is indented and consists of a central floriated design with curly patterns at the edge, all in brown. The upper layer consists of inverted and upright lotuses in a celadon glaze.
The first of the nine stories is much taller than the others. Each side is three bays wide with an arched doorway in the center. On each side of the doorway there is a guardian wearing armor and holding swords. Dragon designs decorate each of the panels on the two side bays. Above the doorway is a scroll pattern, and between the bracket sets beneath the eaves, there are images of the Buddha sitting against the Bodhi leaf background.
