Hyeon Taesun

SOUTH KOREA, Gyeonggi, Yeoju; Joseon dynasty

Hyeon Taesun was a painter-in-attendance from Cheonnyeong (present day Yeoju, Gyeonggi). His extant work includes Crippled Donkey Searching for Plums, which features a winter landscape. The painting employs Seon style, using simplistic brushstrokes of Seon paintings to formulate the figures. Its overall composition, however, is of the style of Kim Myeongkuk from the Che school of the mid-Joseon period (1392–1910).
