Plate with Lotus Design

CHINA; Sui dynasty

This plate measures 31.8 cm in diameter and is flat with an upturned rim. It stands on short legs in the form of double rings. In the middle, there is a lotus with ten petals and a pod with seven seeds at the center. The two outer rings are decorated with a scroll pattern. The surface of the plate is marked with black spots which reflect the impurity of the clay used.
