CHINA, Gansu, Tianshui; Song dynasty

These statues are located in the middle of the front chamber. It depicts Sakyamuni Buddha prophesizing that his son, Rahula, will become a Buddha named Seven-Jeweled Flower in a future birth.
Sakyamuni Buddha appears tall and solemn as he stands on a lotus pedestal. His right hand is placed softly above Rahula’s head. Rahula joins his palms and stands on the lotus pedestal next to the Buddha.
