Prajnaparamita Bodhisattva

Prajnaparamita Bodhisattva

NEPAL

Prajnaparamita is in the relaxation posture. The left foot is tucked into the right thigh and has a lotus emerging from it, while the right leg hangs down and has a lotus attached to the sole. The head is inclined to one side. Both hands clasp long lotus stems between finger and thumb, as flowers wind up the arms to blossom behind the shoulders. The lotuses depict the three periods of time, symbolized by a bud, a mature bloom, and a pod. The Bodhisattva is magnificently adorned in jewelry inlayed with semi-precious stones, several pieces of which adorn and draw attention to the naked torso. A studded belt secures the skirt, which fans from between the legs.
