Bezeklik Cave 31: Uighur Royalty as Donor

CHINA, Xinjiang, Turpan

This image is located on one side of the altar in the main chamber. The figure is thought to be a king based on the cartouche on the lower right hand side which states his name as Alp Arslan.
The figure appears solemn and dignified, with closed lips, thin eyes, and a light frown. He wears a tall pointed hat and a white-collared undergarment under a long robe, while holding a flower in his hands. On both sides are red curtains tied with a knot in the middle, bordered by an inscribed doorway and a green decorative frame with a whorl pattern.
