This niche is located on the west side of the central pillar of Grotto 67, in the Xiangguo (Minister) Temple area. Imitating a canopied wooden structure, the grotto’s layout is rectangular with truncated pyramidal ceiling supported by the central pillar. There are niches on all four sides of the central pillar.
One Buddha and two Bodhisattva statues fill the west niche of the central pillar. The main figure has a flat usnisa and wears a monastic robe over both shoulders. A rectangular Sumeru throne supports the Buddha, who sits in full lotus position. The left hand of the Buddha touches one of the legs while the right hand is missing. The flanking Bodhisattvas are adorned with headdresses, as well as ornaments hanging over their chests.
