Vairocana Buddha, seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne, is the main figure in this niche. The Buddha wears a monastic robe, and his right hand forms the bhumisparsa (earth-touching) mudra, while his left hand is held in front of the abdomen. His disciples are Ananda on the left and Mahakasyapa on the right. They both wear inner robes underneath monastic robes and have palms joined. Inscription tablets with wisps of cloud behind them can be found above both disciples. The niche was restored at some point between 1647 and 1661.
