Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva

This picture was painted by Zhang Daqian in 1944. An inscription in the top right corner states that the painting was a gift to Ju Quan, a lay Buddhist practitioner, on his 59th birthday, from his younger brother, Guo Youshou, a distant relative of Zhang.
The elegant Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is adorned with a pearl headdress, earrings, a necklace, and ornaments. Standing on lotus pedestals, the Bodhisattva holds a flaming wish-fulfilling jewel in the left hand. Colorful stoles encircle the arms and wrap around the body. Shades of red add depth to the folds at the bottom of the robe. The four seals at the bottom of the painting indicate that it is in the collection of Fo Guang Shan Monastery.
