Dazu Rock Carvings Baodingshan Great Buddha Bay Cave 29: Universal Vision Bodhisattva

CHINA, Chongqing, Dazu; Southern Song dynasty

This is the second statue from the left on the west wall of the cave. The Bodhisattva wears a symmetrical monastic robe with an ornamented front, a flowing stole, and a tall, intricately carved headdress which appears to contain a small Buddha image. The Bodhisattva holds an object, possibly an alms bowl, and sits in full lotus position on a platform draped with a cloth. On the left beside the figure there are clouds and a spiral pattern.
