Maijishan Grotto 123: Male Attendant

CHINA, Gansu, Tianshui; Western Wei dynasty

This statue of a male attendant figure is located to the right outside the niche on the right wall. The figure has short thick hair with a bowl cut fringe. Portrayed with a long neck, the figure wears a robe that has a thick round collar and narrow sleeves. The sleeves conceal the hands placed above the abdomen. The right foot is missing, and most of the color has faded except for some red and black paint on the robe. The robe appears as that of the northern tribes during the late Northern Wei dynasty (386–581).
