Chengde Putuo Zongcheng Temple: Dharma Wheel

CHINA, Hebei, Chengde; Qing dynasty

This Dharma wheel features two concentric rings with 12 spokes. The hub is a large red gemstone surrounded by a lotus pattern. The inner ring has four-leaf plants, while the outer has petals against a zigzag background. The center of each flower is embedded with a bead-shaped gemstone in various colors. On the rim of the wheel, there are flowers alternating with a flame which has a gemstone at the center. The wheel is supported by scroll leaves, a lotus, and a round pillar with scroll leaves at the sides.
