Seula Monastery: Sakyamuni Buddha

BHUTAN, Punakha

The statue has a pronounced usnisa with a large jewel at the top. The figure sits in full lotus position on a double lotus throne and makes the bhumisparsa (earth-touching) mudra with the right hand. The Buddha wears a monastic robe that leaves the right shoulder bare, and has stylized folds. It was traditional to place offerings in the hole in the right thigh. A vajra is on a cloth in front of the ankles.
